Episode 31- Recycling and Hippies

One of us takes labels off of cans and rinses them and recycles everything possible, the other drowns unicorns (and then says "screw you all!"). Well, that's what happens you don't recycle, right? Well at least we both look particularly hot today!

I always accept dares (not really, but I like the fact that you dared me to comment).

Now THAT is a great use of video. I am highly impressed. I am not a good recycler myself, even though I know that I should be. We do cans and some plastic. Sorry to be destroying Earth like that.

OK... Recycling...

Unfortunately recycling in the UK is done in such a non environmentally friendly and costly manner that I simply refuse to do it.

Like Poppy, I'm a walker and public transport user and I generally try to avoid using costly (to the earth) products where possible. My department at work is paper free and I'm trying to send the company that way too. I'm also an advocate of cloud based computing, I'm gradually sending the company that way too. Datacentres are far more efficient than my supercooled server room could ever be.

While I am not a vegetarian (and i do eat meat responsibly, and lots of it-i think it helps contribute to a healthy eco-system when provided by humane places) I do wonder at your validation in being environmental by not eating meat, whilst you save money on heating to buy leather handbags, surely made from mass bred cattle, and cheesecake which supports the dairy industry which is known to be a much larger polluter than industry strictly linked to meat production. Are you aware of how silly you sound Poppy?! Materialism and laziness was never environmental and never will be.

Jason - Don't feel bad, it's good to do our bit but until government and big business give a damn (let's not even mention Russia and China at this point) it shouldn't keep you awake at night that your family don't share bathwater.

Pilchard - I compeltely agree, yes I'm snarky in my video (that's the whole effing point after all) but realistically it's just stupid the way recylcing is set up in my part of London. It may make you feel good that you're recycling a tuna can, but the carbon footprint caused by the stupidly inefficient recycling process means it's not really worth the hassle. Us folk in IT are pretty energy efficient anyways, being paperless etc :)

Anonymous - Do you realise how silly you sound by interpreting Snarky Girls as some sort of factually accurate documentary?! Probably, as you commented anonymously.

I have to recycle or I could wake up dead. My wife threatens me with bodily harm if I don't.

hey Poppy, the only reason you might want to compost is when we have to start growing our own food - like -ANY MINUTE- why? price of oil will sky rocket in the next couple of years, supermarket shelves will clear, and we'll all have to go back to the allotment. Luckily we have one across the road from us. Will save you a plot and a spade. It's fun. Honest. Will see if I can bag you a Louis Vuitton hip flask for digging in the frost ;)

In San Francisco they hunt you down and turn you into compost if you don't recycle.

@ehive
My god! I better turn my living room into a chicken pen and grow potatoes in my bathtub for the coming supermarketocalypse. Poppy may have to eat her leather handbag for sustenance.

I feel extremely guilty that I have not picked up my cloth grocery bags yet. I bring home plastic bags by the truckload. Sowwy. But, like Lani, I do use them for cat droppings. And for lining all the wastebaskets in the house. And for many other things too. I still throw a lot of them away though. :(
